The aim of this session is simple: recognize a small musical idea, find it on your instrument, then hear how its color changes with the chord underneath it.
01 · LISTEN
Start with a single brick.
In Bricks, choose the major system and C as the root. Start with CM7, or C major seventh. Choose your instrument and listen to the fragment with the chord.
Before trying to play quickly, sing or hum what you hear. First, make the sound familiar.
02 · FIND IT
Connect your ear to the movement.
Find the notes slowly on your instrument, using the available guidance. Work on a small part if needed. Repeat until you can recognize and play the fragment without rushing.
The guidance differs by instrument. It supports your practice; listening remains your starting point.
03 · COMPARE
Keep the brick. Change the chord.
Keep the C brick and compare the CM7 backing with Am7, or A minor seventh. Listen to the same fragment over each chord.
The fragment’s notes stay the same, but their roles in the chord change. First, listen for the difference. Then use the interval display to understand it.
04 · PLAY
Make the idea your own.
Return to a single chord and start the looping backing track at a comfortable tempo. Repeat the fragment, give the phrase room to breathe, then try a different entry point or rhythm.
The exercise builds reference points. Music also comes from your sound, timing and choices.
